Can pregnancy alone cause a women to suddenly become overweight?
When I see pictures of my mother from her childhood or even when she was pregnant with me, she looks very skinny. My mom and grandma have even told me how thin my mother used to be and that she didn't really gain weight until after my little brother was born, which was 4 years after she had me. Ever since then she has had a huge problem with her weight.
I have often wondered, what was it about being pregnant with her 3rd child that caused her to gain a ton of weight?
Then I read this little piece about Pregnancy and Obesity, it explained about how an obese woman has the opportunity to lose weight while she is pregnant because of the HCG that her body produces, but that these obese women never really take advantage of that.
But I still didn't understand what makes a woman, who had never been overweight, suddenly have weight issues after her 3 pregnancy. Then I did come across something that said...
"The amount of weight a woman puts on during her pregnancy, can cause her and the child to become more at risk for being overweight in the future"
This isn't a very scientific answer, it's not even a very good explanation!
However, not long ago, my mom did in fact use the HCG Diet and experienced very good results. I had even wrote how the HCG Diet helped save my moms life.
So no matter what reason it is that she picked up a weight problem after her third child and not before, is not really the most important thing. I think the most important thing here is, that she is doing what she can to get the weight off. Even if it is years later, I am glad that she is trying to change things now.
Why do you think women are more at risk to become overweight after a pregnancy?
