Does Obesity Further Complicate H1N1? With Flu season upon us, it's off to the doctor we go to get a flu shot. But is there something else we could do to avoid another outbreak of the H1N1 virus? Today I watched a clip of The Early Show taped back in November 2009, where Dr. Holly Phillips, of WCBS-TV, and Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith, sat down to discuss the connection between obesity and the complications it can cause in conjunction the H1N1 virus. This is what Dr. Phillips had to say about it... "Of the 268 hospitalized patients for whom we had weights, actually 58% of them were obese. And 25% of that group were considered morbidly obese. Now, that's more than 100 pounds overweight, so they were significantly overweight and they were at five times increased risk of complications from the H1N1 flu than the general population."
