HCG Diet - The Pregnancy Diet?

How many of you have heard the term "The Pregnancy Diet" in reference to the HCG Weight Loss Diet?

Today I opened up my inbox, as I normally do, and I noticed that it was full of the usual emails... Subscription offers, various notifications, and questions from my wonderful blog readers.

Well, one of these emails in particular peeked my interest - It was obviously from a first time visitor to my blog, and the title of the email read, HCG Diet - The Pregnancy Diet?

Now, although I had heard this term before, it has been quite a while since anyone had brought it up to me specifically - Needless to say, I opened it!

And when I started to read the email, I couldn't tell right away if it was meant to be serious or not - But when I saw that the person signed it with their name and email address, I knew it probably wasn't a fake.

However, I was still kind of skeptical because this is what it said...

HCG Diet - The Pregnancy Diet?

Hi Brian,

I recently came across your blog as I was searching for information about the HCG Diet - I haven't heard that much about it, accept that it is "The Pregnancy Diet" - Well right now I am currently pregnant and I could definitely stand to lose a few pounds... Do you think this diet would be okay for me?

Now you can plainly see why I thought that this may have been a joke at first. But it is obvious that this woman did not do any research on the HCG Diet before hitting the send button on her computer.

So this is what I kindly replied...

HCG Diet - The Pregnancy Diet (Not intended for women who are pregnant)

Hello mam,

I appreciate the email that you sent me today. However, I DO NOT think that the HCG Diet is really a good fit for you while you are pregnant. Here's why - During Phase 2 of this specific diet, you are required to be on a very restricted 500 Calorie Diet for almost an entire month; or sometimes longer depending on how long a person decides to do the diet for. This of coarse would not be safe for your child at this time.

The reason that this diet has been labeled "The Pregnancy Diet", is because women produce large amounts of the HCG Hormone during pregnancy.

But, if you feel like shedding a few pounds after the baby is a couple of months old, this diet would likely work out great for you.

Now I can definitely understand this woman's confusion after hearing this term being used - And I know that my wife doesn't like gaining a bunch of weight during her pregnancy either.

But the fact remains - The HCG Diet is not intended for women to use while pregnant!

Have you heard this term used before?

As always, I would love to hear what you think - So please be sure to tell me your thoughts in a comment below.
